Bangalore based Societe Generale Global Solution Centre (SG GSC), a subsidiary of the France based Societe Generale Group, has launched a unique scholarship program — ‘SG GSC India Talent Scholarship’, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to promote professional education for students with financial constraints.

The ‘SG GSC India Talent Scholarship’ program has been launched to fund higher education for talented students with financial difficulties, who have been selected to renowned Indian professional institutes/ universities. For this academic year, SG GSC has offered scholarships to 11 students from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore; Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore.

As part of this unique scholarship program, SG GSC will sponsor the fee for the complete term/duration of the course; including tuition, boarding and lodging. The thought behind this initiative is that the students should focus entirely on their studies and should not be burdened about repayment of the education loan.

Furthermore, SG GSC will assign a dedicated mentor from their senior leadership team, who will maintain regular contact with the student, acting as a ‘friend, philosopher and guide’. The mentor will guide, coach and motivate the student to succeed, honing their soft skills, and monitoring their progress. The mentor will also provide avenues for the student in various SG Group and SG GSC initiatives.

Nippi Kochhar, Chief Executive Officer of SG GSC said, "India has tremendous intellectual capital which doesn’t surface in view of a lack of the ability of the individual to afford exposure through good renowned Indian institutes. It is SG GSC’s attempt to make this possible for a few highly deserving students through financial assistance”.

Prof. S Sadagopan, Director of International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore; Prof. Pankaj Chandra, Director of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode have whole-heartedly supported and endorsed this initiative by SG GSC Bangalore.

Prof. S Sadagopan, Director - International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, said “SG GSC’s scholarship is special as it is trust based; with no expectations and no bond it is likely to win long-term mindshare of the students. SG GSC senior management is willing to invest its time, rather than merely outsourcing the scheme to an efficient donor agency; this once again shows their ‘investment’ view rather than ‘cost’ view of CSR program. By using merit and means, the scholarship is likely to benefit the needy, at the most beneficial time of the student’s career”.

Prof. Pankaj Chandra, Director - Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, said, “We are extremely pleased that SG GSC is providing scholarship to help students fulfil their academic dreams. One of the key differentiators in this scholarship offered by SG GSC is the mentorship program. Each student is provided with a mentor from SG GSC leadership team which will be a great advantage to the student as he/she gets on-going advice on projects, career development, etc.”
