Reliance TimeOut & Hachette India organize book launch of "Bala Takes the Plunge" by Melvin Durai

Bangalore - Reliance TimeOut, the books, music, stationery, toys and gifts store of Reliance Retail in association with Hachette India organized an exclusive book launch of 'Bala Takes The Plunge' by author Melvin Durai at Reliance TimeOut store today. The book is the South Indian version of 'The Inscrutable Americans' - just funnier.

Flipping through the pages of 'Bala Takes the Plunge', it leads a reader to a humorous story of Balasubraniam Balasubraniam (aka Bala aka Bill) from Madras, who wants to make Tamil films with Rajinikanth but is instead an engineer stuck in the US - and he is desperate to find himself a wife before his parents pick a fair and 'unspoilt' girl for him. Following the launch of the book, the excerpt readings and the discussion gave a thorough idea on the interesting aspects of the story theme, fuelling the thirst of many listeners to know more about the book and grab a copy for themselves.

In the typical trend of launches and events of Reliance TimeOut audience engagement was at its zenith. As Mr. Deepinder Kapany, Head- Reliance TimeOut claims, "It is the aim of the Reliance TimeOut to constantly have exciting and engaging book readings, launches and events at the store and this is another event in that direction. We are sure that the book will be a great success."

About the book

Bala dreams of making Tamil films and directing his favourite actor, Rajinikanth - a dream that leads him, naturally, to study engineering in college. This earns him his dad's approval and the opportunity to export himself to America. Well, as Director of Design at FlexIt Inc., thinking up new ways to help Americans shed the extra weight around their middles and in their wallets, he is at least some kind of director.

Bala loves America, and America, it seems, loves him even more. He has everything he needs to be happy: a green card, a satellite dish to watch cricket, and a companion to share his home - albeit one with a very limited vocabulary. But he is now less than a year away from the big 3-0 (even closer in India with the time difference) and if he doesn't act fast, he might have to settle for whichever bride his Amma chooses. So begins Bala's quest for romance as he meets both American and Indian women, some who are too old, others too young, and yet others just too stuck up. Will he ever find someone just right for him - and worthy enough to inherit his mother's Corelle dishes?
