Mumbai - PVR Pictures, the movie production and distribution arm of the PVR Group is all set to bring the highly-anticipated suspense thriller starring academy award winner GEORGE CLOONEY in the title role of 'The American'. The movie directed by European Director Anton Corbijn (Control) is a PVR Pictures release for October 1, 2010 and also stars Violante Placido, Thekla Reuten and Paolo Bonacelli.

The screenplay of 'The American' is by Rowan Joffe and is an adaptation of Martin Booth's 1990 novel 'A Very Private Gentleman'

Speaking on the all-India release, Mr. Deepak Sharma, Head-Worldwide Distribution, PVR Pictures said, "We are very excited to bring 'The American' to Indian audiences. It is a fast-paced action thriller with a huge star cast like George Clooney in it and I am sure audiences are going to love him in this role. We are glad to have been recognized for our strong distribution network and will ensure maximum distribution spread for this movie".

On his new project, George Clooney adds, "It was something that I had not had the opportunity to do before, it was about being very still, the experience was mostly about stillness, it was a very sparse script and therefore it was much more about internalizing everything".

As an assassin, Jack (played by Mr. Clooney) is constantly on the move and always alone. After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, Jack retreats to the Italian countryside. He relishes being away from death for a spell as he holes up in a small medieval town. While there, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten).Savoring the peaceful quietude he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack and Clara's time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.
