Tractebel Engineering inks Contract with GAIL to provide Project Management Consultancy for the longest pipeline in India

New Delhi - Tractebel Engineering today signed a historic contract with GAIL (India) Ltd. to provide Project Management Consultancy (PMC) for the construction of the Jagdishpur-Haldia Gas Pipeline, the longest in India with a contract value of INR 415 million. The pipeline will supply natural gas from the Mahanadi and KG basin to end users in four states of India viz. Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Covering a length of 2,050 km, the Jagdishpur-Haldia Gas Pipeline will be the largest in India and is expected to be completed at an approximate cost of INR 70,650 million (Euro 1,086 million).

 

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mr. Sunil Mehra, Chairman & Managing Director, Tractebel Engineering India & Mr. V.K.Shukla, General Manager(C&P), GAIL (India) Ltd in the presence of Mr. Georges Cornet, Worldwide CEO, Tractebel Engineering S.A.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Georges Cornet, CEO, Tractebel Engineering S.A said, "This is a very important project for Tractebel Engineering and we are very excited to be associated with GAIL (India) Ltd. The project will drastically reduce the country's dependence on diesel and motor spirit and will help in attaining the desired pollution norms."

The project's stipulated time period for the completion is 36 months and it will be executed in two phases. The first phase will include the construction of 800km of 36-inch mainlines. Along with the mainline, various spur lines of different combinations of length and diameter will be constructed within 24 months of the commencement of the project.

The second phase will mainly include the construction of spur lines of two different combinations and is expected to get completed within the estimated time period i.e. 36 months.

During the construction of the gas pipeline Tractebel Engineering will be responsible for providing project management consultancy to GAIL in a variety of segments like survey supervision (geo-technical and hydrological survey), seismic analysis, process engineering, cost engineering, construction management, planning and scheduling to name a few.

The commencement of the pipeline will lead to enhanced industrial activity along the entire corridor and therefore to an improvement in economic conditions of those living around the region. The region will also see a boost in agricultural and economic development thus helping its people attain self-dependency.
