Chandigarh - The Punjab-Chandigarh belt has huge potential for growth of IT industry, and would touch software export revenue of Rs.5,000 crore by 2020, according to Ajay P Shrivastava, Joint Director & Center Head, STPI Mohali.
STPI Mohali had a modest start with Rs 8 crores in IT and ITES domain and has grown over the years to cross Rs 1000 crore mark, an achievement in itself considering the fact that it caters to Tier II and III cities in the northern India belt, Mr. Srivastava informed. It generated a revenue of Rs 1196 crore through exports in FY '10 and is expected to cross Rs 1400 crore during the current fiscal.
Started in the year 1998 with barely four companies and a manpower of approximately 50 people, STPI Mohali today has over 150 actively operating companies registered with it and has provides direct employment to over 12,000 people.
The region is the most promising IT hub in the country especially with the highly proactive governments and the evolving ecosystem with annual brainstorming session like the eRevolution 2010 stimulating new thought process, and leading every stakeholder on to the next level of growth, he feels.
"With the availability of newer technologies in the market like Web 2.0 and 3G mobile applications, combined with the natural entrepreneurship of the local residents, fresh and innovative solutions and products will be developed creating new business opportunities both in domestic as well as global markets," says Shrivastava.
STPI Mohali has setup a strong online support system to provide prompt troubleshooting, both operational as well as technical, for the IT companies registered with it, besides the option for them to chat with service engineer directly.
