Bangalore Royal Challengers introduces series of green initiatives for their home turf and garden city - Bangalore

Bangalore - First of its kind in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have unveiled an eco-friendly drive to conserve the green values of their home ground and the Garden City, Bangalore.

To drive home the environment-friendly message, RCB will use its own website, www.royalchallengers.com, social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and Orkut, even blog for mass fan participation. A feature on the RCB website already generating much interest among the fans is the carbon footprint tool. Dedicated green buses across the city will ferry fans to Chinnaswamy Stadium to reduce vehicular emission. The Green initiative by Royal Challengers actively advocates car/taxi pooling by fans to ease congestion in and around the stadium, in addition to a whole host of simple and cost-effective initiatives under this pioneering effort by the an IPL team . The air conditioning of the Royal Challenge team bus will be powered by a solar panel.

Sidhartha Mallya, Director, Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited, said: "Climate change is a real challenge. Royal Challengers Bangalore have made a beginning this season by unleashing a series of steps to assess the carbon footprint and reduce its impact for the Bangalore leg of this sporting spectacle. While it will take us a couple of seasons to implement all initiatives, Royal Challengers are game for this challenge and we are confident about winning this game."

The eco-friendly campaign will also include a video featuring the RCB players sharing green tips and demonstrating how common dustbins can be used for waste segregation. During their matches, the players will wear green ribbons to showcase their support to the 'green cause'. Even accessories like tissue papers available for RCB teams and fans will have green messages on them to drive home the point. The franchisee has made significant investments to ensure use of recyclable paper for creatiing fan merchandise as well as usage of paper cups for dispensing beverages instead of plastic cups.

RCB is not only a team of champions on the field but off the field as well. Support the Red and Gold brigade with a dash of green.
