In another move to showcase their contribution towards the mother earth & upcoming Common Wealth Games, Hindustan Tin Works Ltd. (HTWL) - India's largest can manufacturer has created the Common Wealth Games Mascot 'Shera'. This lion is created out of fully recyclable metal scrap and is named as the Eco-friendly Shera.
This metal symbol of scrap imitation of the Common Wealth Games Mascot will be a legacy for generations to come as it is made out of the recycled scrap. This unique creature made out of tin scrap is been kept at the IndiaPack 2010 Exhibition being held at Mumbai from September 30, 2010 to October 3, 2010. HTWL presents this unique mascot to the Government as a tribute to the upcoming Games.
HTWL have started a global initiative which is the WORLD’S FIRST METAL CAN RECYCLING MOVEMENT and is called as the CANVIRONMENT WEEK. This campaign will take place through 3 cities in India i.e Mumbai, Bangalore & New Delhi with a series of activities from November 10, 2010 to November 17, 2010. The movement will also mark the 200th Birthday of the Can. Rag pickers are the major cogs in the recycling wheel. To honour their contribution, HTWL have decided to provide basic medi-care facilities to 200 rag pickers of India.
Started in the Indian Sub-continent, the initiative took no time to go global. Canvironment Week aims at spreading awareness about the unique eco-friendly benefits of cans and dedicated to conducting activities across the world for the promotion of metal can recycling. So far 8 different can makers from 8 different countries have confirmed their participation and they will be conducting parallel activities in their countries as well.
By featuring the Eco-friendly Shera at the IndiaPack 2010 Exhibition, HTWL has given a kick start to their recycling drive in their move towards the Canvironment Week.
